If you've ever been in a place where you feel like you're struggling to open up to God about something that's bothering you, you're not alone. Too often, as Christians, we try to skip to the part where we're full of faith, believing and trusting in God's plan for our lives. However, I don't believe we get to that place on our own. I think God leads us there after we're open and honest with Him about how we feel. So in this blog post, I'll be sharing 7 journaling prompts to guide your process of opening up to God.
As you journal out these prompts, think of your journaling time as a safe space between you and God where you're pouring your heart out to Him in the rawest form. Don't filter out your thoughts, don't try to make your answers sound pretty, be open with God: this is an honest time between you and Him.

1. What have you been pretending doesn't bother you, but deep down, it really does?
Write to God about it and be honest about how you feel. Whether it's a rejection, a delay, a closed door, or even an area where you feel like God has been quiet, write to Him about it.
2. Where have you felt let down by God?
Write to Him about it. This might feel scary or even uncomfortable to admit to yourself and God, but naming the disappointment is the first step toward surrendering it.
3. What emotions have you been avoiding or stuffing down lately?
Allow yourself to feel them and write to God about them.
4. What do you think God might be inviting you to bring to Him right now?
Think about areas where you've felt the Holy Spirit nudging you to pray, or things you've been trying to handle on your own but have been struggling to. Write to God about them.
5. When you think about opening up to God, what scares you?
Are you scared you won't like the answer He gives you or that He'll call you to wait longer than you've already been waiting for your miracle? Be open and honest with God about your fears and surrender them to Him.
6. What do you need to hear from God right now?
In what areas do you need to feel His comfort? Be open and honest with Him about it, and write your request like a prayer.
7. What would it look like to surrender your full heart to God without a filter?
Would you be doing less and trusting Him more? Would you be coming to Him more and allowing yourself to be weak in His presence? However it would look like for you, write it out and ask God to help you show up more authentically in your relationship with Him.
